Make school a “safe zone” for children with asthma and allergies
In the August issue of Montana Parent magazine, I review the importance of communication between parents of a child with food allergy and/or asthma with school personnel to make the transition easier for all involved. Returning to school should be a time of anticipation and not anxiety.
In this brief article, I outline helpful steps to take BEFORE school starts that may decrease the chance of an accidental food allergy exposure leading to a severe reaction. I also provide a checklist of important items to complete for children with asthma to assist in early recognition and treatment of an asthma attack at school.
A smooth transition into school can be accomplished by developing a coordinated, pro-active plan. To read the article, go to: http://digital.turn-page.com/i/147808
