If one is good, 2 are better… A new nasal spray containing 2 medications!
Last year, the nasal spray Dymista™ was released. This nasal spray is FDA approved for the treatment of seasonal allergic rhinitis (“hay fever”) for persons 12 years old and older. It is a combination of 2 medications, Azelastine (an antihistamine available as Astepro™ or Astelin™) and fluticasone proprionate (a corticosteroid known more commonly as Flonase™).
This nasal spray has the advantage of containing 2 very good medications with distinct mechanisms. There is rapid onset of action within 30 minutes and 67% improvement in nasal symptoms compared to either component alone. The side effects are (as one would expect) those of either component. There is no addiction potential like over-the-counter nasal decongestant sprays and the amount of spray volume is low (that’s good!) For more information about Dymista™ go to: http://dymista.com/
If you are not satisfied with the control of your allergies, ask your doctor about Dymista™ or contact Family Allergy & Asthma Care of Montana. We will develop an individualized plan to treat your allergies with the least amount of medication possible.
